Kniha sleduje vyšetrovateľku Kat Frankovú a Locka — prvého detektíva s umelou inteligenciou, ktorí riešia prípad sériového vraha nájdeného ukrižovaného v Midlands a čelia veľkému tlaku médií a verejnosti. Recenzentka však poznamenáva, že prvé dve tretiny sa pomaly rozbiehali — Lock bol často málo využitý, vyšetrovanie stagnovalo a dej sa točil v kruhu, zatiaľ čo posledná tretina bola výborná, akčná a prekvapivá, kde sa stopy spojili a prišlo silné rozuzlenie.
