Úloha hlavnej hrdinky bola jednoduchá: vkradnúť sa do najstráženejšieho sídla v Potomacu a získať späť prívesok po zosnulom otcovi, no prichytil ju miliardár Zachary Sun, ktorý ju drží ako slúžku a hračku. Pod rovnošatou tejto drzej pomocníčky sa však skrýva hráčka; je rovnocenným protivníkom, čo odštartuje šialenú romantickú drámu a moderné spracovanie motívu Popolušky. Autorky citlivo vykreslili temný a emočný príbeh Zacha aj postupné zbavovanie zábran oboch postáv, pričom dej udržujú napätím tajomstvá a niekoľko veľkých zvratov. Romantické finále je miestami trochu prehnané, ale väčšinou uspokojujúce, a čitateľ zostáva zvedavý na ďalší príbeh priateľa Olivera.

Druhý diel si zachováva rovnaký žáner — romantiku presiaknutú erotikou s jasnou inšpiráciou Popoluškou a občasnými návratmi postáv z prvej časti. Dej je predvídateľný a smeruje k šťastnému koncu, no vďaka dynamike medzi postavami a vnútorným konfliktom — Farrow bojuje s tyraniou macochy a podozrením, že závet bol sfalšovaný, zatiaľ čo Zachary zápasí s vlastnými démonmi a tlakom matky — zostáva pútavý.
