Podivný príliv je dark academia fantasy odohrávajúca sa na Aldrynskej univerzite, kde študentka Emory študuje lunárnu mágiu a po desivej noci v morskej jaskyni prežije, zatiaľ čo ostatní študenti zahynú. Emory získa legendárne schopnosti a so samotárskym Bazom (jeho sestra bola medzi utopenými) pátra po pravde o tajnom spolku, pričom niektoré údajné obete sa vynárajú živé a následne umierajú nadprirodzene. Recenzentka chváli nápaditý svet, legendu o Fázach a vizuálny dizajn knihy, ale upozorňuje na zmätočné a nedotiahnuté časti príbehu, autorčine „ohýbanie“ faktov a predvídateľný záver.
