Po zmiznutí študentky Isly Mathesonovej sa po dvadsiatich rokoch jej telo nájde v rašelinisku, čo spustí napínavé vyšetrovanie. Do prípadu vstupuje detektív Duncan McAdam, ktorý sa vracia na rodný ostrov, musí čeliť vlastnej temnej minulosti a preraziť bariéry uzavretej miestnej komunity. Kniha ponúka sugestívnu atmosféru škótskej vysočiny, svižné tempo a napätie bez brutálnych scén, pričom stavia na psychologickom preskúmaní postáv a prepracovanej zápletke.

Na vyšetrení prípadu je poslaný z Glasgowa detektív Duncan McAdam, ktorý sa snaží prebudiť uzavretú komunitu a odhaliť tajomstvá dusené desaťročia. Recenzentka chváli atmosféru a prostredie knihy, ale upozorňuje, že podrobné opisy spomaľujú dej a hlavný hrdina je podľa nej nemastný‑neslaný. Napriek výhradám sa jej prípad páčil a rada si prečíta aj ďalšie diely série, ktorá má zatiaľ šesť častí.
